This is a video (from my iphone) of my new homemade cardboard box 5watt amplifier. Enjoy. (Language! Slurred words! Jerky camera angles! Cheesy audio! Oh my!)

Just a quick note here. This video shows off my new Barbietron 2 effects box custom built by Futuree Circuits. I love it. If you’re in the market for a totally custom amazing circuit-bent noise synth/effects/thingy, or if you love things of that nature, check out the website. Mind-blowing.

Running With The Night is a monthly event. Most recently, we held one Feb 21, 2010 in the Vanagallery, parked outside my studio on 3rd Street in Riverside, CA. See photos below to get an idea of the intimate epic-ness of our gathering.

Surprise (shh) performance in front of the Art LA Contemporary Saturday at 1PM. FORT Vanagallery. Foot Sunshine (noise). A Roche (folknik). MC White Jewish Girl (bad rap karaoke), and maybe Producer Snafu (hard) and anyone else off the street. + live drums of destruction. Look for us in the grey van.

As promised, here’s sound from the 1st Running With The Night. This is the track recorded from Fake Sunshine (Fuck Sunshine). Unmastered. Live captured room sound. Live vocals and performed with Star6 app for iphone. FS usually works all-analog, but adding star6 in to live performance felt really natural and intuitive with its gestural (accelerometer) sensors. The whole concert was recorded, so maybe there’ll be a split release on Jewish Noise in the future? The concert was video-taped as well, so maybe post some vids if people are interested.

Pretty amazing performance at House of Cats tonight in Penn Wynne/Philly-delphia Pennsyldrainia. Noise, dubstep, iphone, atmosphere, effects wrangling, crowd projections, poetry + corned-beef sandwiches, potato salad, kosher pickles, deviled eggs, and live photo portraiture. Huge Ups to the Philly family. Performers: GINGKO DJed tropical/dubstep/highlife, CHATTR on the tenori-on ambient beat repeats w/ laptop, J-Rome with a special spoken poetry event, J-Bachman on glitched-out keys, Fone Sunshine performing samples and effects with iphone/Star6. Thanks to Kate, April, Sharon, JW, Amy Orr, Big K and Laura. Also, MC Uncle Jerry was in full effect.

I’ve posted previously about my upcoming collaborative publication Janky here. Janky is a collection of zines, a magazine, handprinted photo and a SOUNDZINE with audio from Jewish Noise bands, friends and strangers. Currently, Janky has been fundraising for about 4 weeks through kickstarter.com and has raised about 51%. Well, there are 26 days left (fundraising runs through Feb 13) to raise the total $2500 to print/produce it. If you haven’t yet pledged, please consider doing so, and for as little as a dollar. It’s called a pledge and not a donation because you get rewards, like the complete package for $19, your own small photo included in the credits for $36, and your own audio track or field recording included at a higher amount (it’s true). For more information on Janky and to make a pledge, click here.

Running With The Night report: Maybe 20 or 30 guests packed the Adventist Speakeasy for the first concert in this monthly series. The concert was recorded and videotaped. Some of that may pop up here in the future.

Coming soon: a rolling noise show parked at/near an active art event in LA later in January. More info forthcoming. Or maybe not. It might be guerilla-style.

UPDATE: 1 more musician added to the list of performers.

Hey all, a few projects in the works, including the Molasses CD (dedicated to the Boston Molasses Flood) and THIS!

As part of Janky, a Telephony SoundZine will be released with music/soundwork by a variety of artists, all recorded over the phone. Some old names from the Jewish Noise record label will be on this, as well as a variety of other performers. The individual song styles run the gamut, but they’re all tied together by a lovely grainy, nofi, and sometimes downright sludgy sound with beautiful melodies and textures pulsing throughout.

Help make this happen. Visit the Kickstarter page and pledge money to reserve your copy!
